Web Audience Growing for the Arts


We are increasingly choosing the internet and other new media to the enjoy the arts — and the change is shown in a National Endowment for the Arts study done with in coordination with the US Census Bureau. The results of the study discussed by representatives from 40 national arts organizations at a NEA roundtable is summarized in this December 10, 2009 press release and the survey is also available for download.

Li’l Van Go


Excusing the pun, this is an interesting blog post from The Painter’s Keys by Robert Genn. He’s taken a ex-Budget Rental van and modified to become a portable painting studio. You can see photos and description of the modifications on his blog.

There are other artist resources there, including this database of Art Quotations organized in a searchable database of over 347 categories. Also a subscription page to the Robert Genn’s Twice-Weekly Letter — a mix of technique, advice, and meditations on art. It’s free here.

Writes Robert — “It has to do with the simplicity and lack of clutter of such an environment. Mobility is one thing, but insularity is another. One need not go far. Without the phone and the computer, no matter where you are, the mind clears and the brush settles into a pleasant rural rhythm. Contemplation and the blessing of steady application pervade. I found myself dwelling on the multiple trunks of a paper birch. The words “snug” and “smug” came to mind…
