20 Artists Share the Canvas:
Exquisite Corpse is a game played by DaDaists and Surrealists in which collaborators add to an artistic composition of images or collection of words in sequence. There are many variations of this game. Founder André Breton reportedly said it started out playful and eventually became enriching.
At Lemondrop – 416 W. Commercial Street, four teams of artists are currently creating projects to be on display during First Friday, June 1 from 6-9 p.m. Each project is initiated by a team member, then rotated through the group until each team member has made a contribution to the piece. The exhibition night will also feature live music by Kevin Ehlers and poster designed by Anne Katheryn Dezort.
The first Exquisite Corpse exhibition in July, 2011 featured one artist team. This year’s exhibition features four creative teams:
- H.E. Croan, Jeremy Mosher, Mandolin Mosher, Adam Barnes, Gary Bresee
- Daniel Zender, Bill Shultz, Courtney Tucker, Zac Swanson
- Meganne Rosen O’Neal, Alex McLain, Houston Ussery, Jessica Mahan, Tyler Estes
- Anne Dezort, Kelly Rosen O’Neal, Kiefer Williams, Roen Proctor, Julie Klotz, Dave Maloney
Lemondrop is an open, inclusive non-profit organization whose mission is focused on building the local arts community, including artists, musicians, promoters, organizers, managers, audio/video engineers, and other roles that make up the backbone of creative output. Lemondrop works to create connections between artists, like-minded individuals, businesses, and organizations in Springfield.
The Exquisite Corpse show will also be on display during the June 2 Spanish Talent Contest at Lemondrop from 7-9 pm.
