Brightly colored fabrics, translucent chiffon, bits of ribbon and lace bring an unexpected splash of color to the Springfield-Branson National Airport.

It’s not an open suitcase — it’s a textile and fiber art show sponsored by the Springfield Regional Arts Council at Sky Gallery until November 13 in the airport public reception area.

Regional fiber artists bring the theme “A Sense of Place” to life with painterly imagery, cartoonish stylization, and abstraction using techniques of fabric collage, quilting, and felted wool soft sculpture.

49 works of art featured at the show were created by artists Lettie Blackburn, Rosemary Claus-Gray, Judith Ferguson, Carol Penprase, Pam RuBert, and Suzanne Thomas and will be on display through November 13, 2012.

Sky Gallery is open 24 hours a day, and visitors can park for free in the short-term parking lot for up to 30 minutes.
