Opening reception on First Friday Art Walk, Friday, November 4th from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. and preview artist talk on Thursday, November 3 at 6 p.m. The preview artist talk is part of the Springfield Regional Arts Council’s new education series, “The Art of Process”. Each photograph that Julie Blackmon takes is a series of shots that she digitally edits and compiles into one single image to create a story of contemporary family life.
Julie Blackmon has received numerous awards for her photography. In 2006, Blackmon received first prize from The Santa Fe Center for Photography in the Project Competition. Blackmon was also named one of PDN’s “30 New and Emerging Photographers” in 2007 and American Photo’s “Emerging Photographer of 2008.” Blackmon’s work has also appeared in several museums and public collections including George Eastman House, Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, and Portland Art Museum, and on the cover of Time Magazine.
