MOAK 2012 features 52 paintings and prints, 13 photographs, six ceramic works, three mixed media, two sculptures, two fiber/textile pieces and a single piece of jewelry, all by accomplished artists from the area’s four-state region of Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kansas. The exhibition was juried by Kevin Murphy, curator of American art at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas.

“It’s a highly varied exhibit,” said Cindy Quayle, museum preparator, who helped organize the show, “judged on individual merit. When I look at the works, there is such a huge diversity in what was chosen,” she continued. “He (Murphy) really evaluated it piece by piece.”

Missouri artists make up about two-thirds of the exhibit with a strong presence by Springfield artists, including cash award winners photographer Michael Dickey, metal artist Sarah Perkins, and painter Jane Troup (painting featured in photograph above.)

Opening public reception on Friday, November 16, 5-7:30 pm.
